Students will go to Art on Tuesday, and then begin a 5 day rotation of Music on Wednesday. In ELA, we will be learning about what real reading is and ways to avoid 'fake' reading. In writing, students will learn about the writing process, modes of writing, and how to use C. U. P. S. as an editing strategy. Students will also start to notice how talking about our ideas helps us as writers and as readers.
We will begin the Phonics Dance 'Hunks and Chunks,' and we will also begin studying our Word Wall Words this week. Be sure to visit the Pictures and Videos page for access to all of the 'Hunks and Chunks.' You can also find our Word Wall Words on the Word Wall page. Taking a few minutes each night to study these as we learn them will help your child as readers and as writers at school, at home, and everywhere! Our first Word Wall test will be on Tuesday, September 10th. The scoring guide for this test can be found on the Word Wall page.
In math, we will begin a new unit on measurement and graphing. Be sure to visit the Newsletter page to read more about the things students will be learning throughout this unit of study.
In Science, we will finish learning about the steps in a scientific inquiry as we complete our butterfly experiment. We will work to record the results of our experiment and draw conclusions about them.
Please remind your student to complete their homework on ScootPad, and also remind them that their reading logs are due on Friday. Don't forget that students are asked to read at least one picture book this month and read at least one Wonderopolis article this month. A link to Wonderopolis can be found on the Inquiring Minds page of our website.
Please let me know if you have any questions, comments, or concerns.
Highest Regards,
Gina Weber
