Extra! Extra! Read All About It!
On this page, you can find a description of the units being taught in our classroom. I will update this page every time we start a new unit. Here, you will be able to understand the things your child is learning about at school and ways you can support them at home. There are also suggestions for educational websites and apps your child might enjoy.

Phonics Dance & Word Wall TestsWe will continue to build our Word Wall. Beginning Sept. 8, students will learn three-five new sight words. For more information on what sight words are, and why they are important, please take a moment to read this article, What Are Sight Words? The word wall words we use are words that have been researched based on the frequency of their appearance in text in 2008. They are an updated version that replaces Dolch and Fry Lists.
Each week, I will add new words to the Word Wall Page on this site so students can have easy access to them anywhere where they can connect to the internet. On Fridays, students will be expected to write 5 complete sentences using any of our word wall words- one word in each sentence. These tests will be scored based on C.U.P.S. (Capitalization, Usage, Punctuation, and Spelling). Each sentence is worth 10 points, and one point will be deducted for each C.U.P.S. error. In addition, 5 points will be deducted for incomplete sentences, run-on sentences, and sentences that don't make sense. Students will graph the results of these tests to monitor their own progress at school. |
Science and Social Studies
In Science, we will begin a unit on plants. We will read, talk, and write to learn about several plant topics before conducting some hands-on activities with plants during the last week of school.
