Num Num Num!
Dear Students and Families,
On Monday, we welcomed a new addition to our class. Students participated in an extensive process to name her, and ultimately decided on the name- Num Num Num! After a few short days, she went from being a caterpillar to a chrysalis. The most amazing part was that we had an opportunity to watch this happen before our very eyes! Maybe we'll be just as lucky when she emerges as a Monarch Butterfly!

Day 15: September 8, 2014
This is the tenth day in a chrysalis, and it looks like Num Num Num! is ready to emerge! Could today be the day? We are wondering if our friend is going to be a girl or a boy.

Still in a chrysalis, but more details are starting to appear. I wonder how much longer it will be until our butterfly emerges.

Below is a video of Num Num Num! shedding her caterpillar skin and transitioning into a chrysalis. The whole process took about 6-8 minutes. It was quite amazing!
(Note: The speed of this video was increased.)

Little Num Num Num! was teasing us today! We noticed her climbing to the top of her house. We thought she was ready to begin her transformation, but really she was just checking things out. She is such a great planner!

At this stage, she seems to be doing a lot of eating and sleeping. I wonder what she's thinking about?
