Monday, Sept. 30th is our 'friends and family' day to shop at the Book Fair. If you or a loved one would like to shop with your student, please join us for lunch at 10:41. Please wait for us in the school lobby, and walk to the cafeteria with our class. You can take your child (only) to the library for shopping after lunch.
Students will have an additional opportunity to shop at the Book fair on Friday, October 4th. If your child is unable to shop on Monday, you can send money to school with your child for our whole class shopping day on Friday, Oct. 4.
Reading Log Challenge: October
Students have a new reading log, and a new reading log challenge for October. There are three things for students to complete for this challenge.
The first is to read 6/7 days each week, and turn in their reading log on Fridays.
The second is to read a book or an article about matter- the topic we are studying in Science. (Wonderopolis Wonder #276 Does Matter Really Matter? may be a good choice.) Students are also asked to read any of the free e-books from the Oxford Owl website.
The third is to pass 2 Reading Counts tests in the month of October. The first Reading Counts test will be based on a book read aloud in class, and students will take this test as a class at school. Most of the books in our school library have a Reading Counts test that goes along with it, and Reading Counts tests can only be taken at school.
Please send me an email with any questions, comments, or concerns you may have in regards to the October Reading Log Challenge.
MAP Test
Students will resume MAP testing this Friday. We will also attend another session of testing to complete the math MAP test that we were unable to complete last Wednesday due to technological difficulties. In addition, I recently found out that our class will complete this testing for the fall, and we will not do the MAP test again until spring. This is different from last year where students took the MAP tests in the fall, the winter, and in the spring. Once all three tests (Reading, Math, and Language) are complete, a summary of your student's results will be sent to you.
Please let me know if you have any questions, comments, or concerns about the MAP test or anything else that I can be of assistance with. Thank you for your support. Second grade parents are the best!
Highest Regards,
Gina Weber
