Please make sure you place your Scholastic book order by Sunday, February 1. 2015. Students will go to P.E this week, and will begin a 5 day rotation of technology on Friday. In ELA, students will work on writing a friendly letter with correct capitalization and punctuation. The body of their letters will be written in paragraph form. We will also continue to read and discuss the character traits in Charlotte's Web. In science, students will continue to study force and motion, and in math we will continue to learn about number bonds and how they relate to addition and subtraction. A link to this week's homework can be found here.
We will be celebrating Valentine's Day on Friday, February 13, 2014. I would like to do a STEM based craft with our class as they will be learning about electricity in our next Science unit. However, the activity I would like to do requires several supplies. Any donations to help cover the cost of materials will be greatly appreciated. Please send donations in with your student in an envelope with your child's name on it. If I receive enough for the supplies we will do the activity. If not I will return the donations to you. Please send in your donation by Wednesday, Feb. 4th. In addition to this craft activity, students are welcome to send in Valentines Day cards for their classmates. These do not need to be addressed; they can just have your students name on them. We will have time to exchange our Valentines on Friday, February 13, 2015. There are 23 students in our class.
Next week, we will invite a new student to our class from Poland. He just arrived in America about two weeks ago. The students an I are very excited to welcome our new classmate. To help our students understand what it might feel like to be a new student, in a new country, at a new school, I read the book, One Green Apple by Eve Bunting. I am including a link to a YouTube video of the book. Feel free to watch it with your student and extend the conversation we have had about welcoming our newest Cougar to our class.
Please let me know if you have any comments, questions, or concerns.
Highest Regards,
Gina Weber
