Dear Family,
Thanks to everyone who has donated LEGO's for our Epic Lego Wall. We are well on our way to getting the pieces we need for this wonderful incentive for our class. If you come across any of the 10 x 10 base plates we would greatly appreciate them along with Lego bricks.
I was able to give students an early start on their homework for next week. Your child should have their homework folders or the homework sheet in their backpacks today. You can also download a copy of it here. Included with their homework is a letter (on green paper) with your child's reading levels for the DRA2 assessment, Lexile Range, and Raz-Kids. This is intended to help you and your child choose books that are just right for them at this time. Remember, that with daily reading these levels will increase throughout the year. If you are looking for books at a certain reading level, try useing Scholastic's Book Wizard. It is a fantastic resource for locating levels of books for your child.
Speaking of Scholastic, I have several parents who are interested in purchasing Halloween books from this month's Book Club flyer. I usually place orders at the end of the month, but I will place the October book order this Tuesday. Please get your Halloween orders placed by then! Since we have the holidays coming up and several breaks at the end of the month, I am going to start placing our Scholastic orders on the second Tuesday of each month. This will allow your orders to arrive before any major holiday breaks. Please let me know if your book orders are ever a surprise, and I can leave them for you in the school office.
Blaze the Trail is on Friday this week, and we will also have Red Ribbon Week. Please read below for the exciting things we have going on each day next week.
RED RIBBON WEEK
October 13- 17th
Each year we dedicate this week to discuss the importance of leading a healthy, drug-free life.
We hope your child will participate in these activities and by doing so it will help them to make wise choices now and in the future.
Our theme this year is….
“The Best Me is Drug Free”
The focus will be on saying no to drugs and yes to a healthy life style.
Monday (October 13th) - Students are given buttons with our theme on them. Students are encouraged to wear their buttons each day.
Tuesday (October 14th)- Students are encouraged to wear their Red. To show they support a drug free and healthy life style.
Wednesday (October 15th) Making Healthy Choices is choosing to be a success- Students are encouraged to dress as if they were heading to their future career choice.
Thursday (October 16th) Your Choices are the Keys to Your Dreams"- Wear your PJs today
Friday (November 17th) Healthy choices a healthy me- Student should wear appropriate workout clothes to show that exercising is a healthy life choice.
Each day ribbons will be hidden throughout the school. If a student finds a ribbon they can take it to the office and state a healthy choice to receive their prize.
Have a great weekend!
Highest Regards,
Gina Weber
