In January, the American Library Association announced its highly regarded literary prizes including the Newbery and Caldecott medals. I am so excited that my favorite author, Kate DiCamillo, received the Newbery Award Medal for 2014 for her book titled, Flora and Ulysses: the Illuminated Adventures.
Have you ever read an award winning book? I usually find that Newbery and other literary award winners make great book choices! So, to celebrate the work of these great authors, I am going to ask you to choose any award winning book to read and write about on this blog. (Book & Media Awards: including the Newbery, Caldecott, Sibert, Wilder, Carnegie, Batchelder, Belpré, Geisel, and Odyssey awards and the May Hill Arbuthnot Honor Lecture.)
You can form your comment as a brief retelling with your opinion about why you think the book deserved an award. You never know who you might inspire to read just by participating in this blog!
As an extra incentive, those of you who participate with a thorough and complete book project will get your name in a drawing for a variety of prizes including FREE award winning books, scholastic gift certificates, and ScootPad homework passes. Every student who participates with a thorough and complete project will get a prize! So, make sure you give a brief retelling of the book with thoughtful reasons for why you think the book won an award! The drawing will be on Friday, March 14, 2014. This should give you plenty of time to choose, read, and write about an award winning book. I can't wait to read your projects!
Your Teacher,
