Ever since we were married, my husband Neil and I have had a very special November tradition. On November 1st we get out our wooden Christmas Advent Calendar, we take turns writing the things we are thankful for, and we put the notes in each day of the calendar. In December, we take turns reading what the other person wrote. We love taking the time to reflect on our blessings, and can't wait to read what the other person was thankful for. This year, Maddie (our 4 year old) is participating for the first time, and we are so excited to share our special family tradition with her. So far, she is thankful for a cupcake, her stretchy skeleton figure, candy, and her toys- oh my!
Another family tradition that I've been doing for almost 15 years is volunteering for the Salvation Army Angel Tree with my whole family! My sister makes all of the arrangements, and on the day after Thanksgiving you can find all eleven of us at the Angel Tree table in one of the Louisville malls. It's a tradition that we enjoy and look forward to every year.
How about you? Do you have any special family holiday traditions that you do in November? Take a minute to think about what you do with your family for Thanksgiving. You can also take an opportunity to write about the things you are thankful for. I look forward to reading your blog posts. Happy Thanksgiving!
