Ever since I have been married, my husband Neil and I have had a very special November tradition. On November 1st we get out our wooden Christmas Calendar, we take turns writing the things we are thankful for, and we put the notes in each day of the calendar. In December, we take turns reading what the other person wrote. We love taking the time to reflect on our blessings, and can't wait to read all of the things we were thankful for in November. This tradition has become even more special now that my girls are old enough to participate. They find the most interesting thing to be thankful for like dessert, hopping on one foot, and Jack-O-Lanterns!
Another family tradition that I've been doing for over 15 years is volunteering for the Salvation Army Angel Tree with my whole family! My sister makes all of the arrangements, and on the day after Thanksgiving, you can find all eleven of us at the Angel Tree table in one of the Louisville area malls. It's a tradition that we enjoy and look forward to every year.
How about you? Do you have any special family holiday traditions that you do in November? Take a minute to think about what you do with your family for Thanksgiving. You can also take an opportunity to write about the things you are thankful for. I look forward to reading your blog posts. Happy November!
